TRAINING & SUPPORT

Weather it is training environmental officers of large companies, or advice on a local DIY project, we can provide training and support from our Gold Coast office, or at your office, site office or construction site. All engineers and technicians at ATP have valid Construction Induction cards (White Card) and the required PPE.

  • We have worked with Environmental Officers from the Local Authorities in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory as well as with the Environmental Officers and Advisors from some of the largest construction companies in the country. Some of the common issues raised have been how to select appropriate noise and vibration monitoring equipment, what the relevant parameters are, and how to interpret the results.

ATP Consulting Engineers provides training and support in the following areas:

    • Environmental legislation in Qld, NSW, WA and NT of relevance to noise and vibration impact assessment.

    • Australian and international standards that govern best practice in noise and vibration monitoring and control.

    • Hands-on training in use of the relevant instruments.

    • Data analysis and reporting.

  • If recognised early, noise and vibration constraints can be readily controlled before they cause nuisance or even physical damage to sensitive receivers. Our experience shows that maintenance of good relationship with stakeholders is as important as recognising the potential for noise/vibration impacts. It is crucial to establish appropriate control measures before a community concern is raised. Reduction of the noise/vibration to a level which may be noticeable, but acceptable for a short duration, is far more effective than complaint response. If negative attitude is developed towards the project, far more costly control measures will be required without resolving the perception of a 'problem'.

ATP Consulting Engineers provides training and support in the following areas:

    • Principles of noise/vibration control at source, along transmission path and at the receiver.

    • How to select the appropriate noise/vibration control measure.

    • Communication and relationship with project stakeholders.

    • Common pitfalls and costly mistakes.

    • Project review and hands-on training as part of construction/industrial site establishment.

  • Occupational noise control is an integral part of health and safety at any workplace. Under the Queensland Work Health and Safety Act 2011, it is a legal responsibility of the owners/managers of business to ensure safe workplace. Long term occupational noise exposure can lead to permanent hearing damage to and likely to a major damages claim for the owners/managers. The key issue in occupational noise control is recognising the risk. Often the risk is not identified because of gradual 'acclimatisation' in case of continual 'low level noise' or because the noise is intermittent and of relatively short duration. Identification of the risk of long-term noise/vibration exposure is the most important part of the workplace control.

ATP Consulting Engineers provides training and support in the following areas:

    • Responsibilities of owners/managers under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

    • Rights and responsibilities of employees under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

    • Overview of health effects of long-term occupational noise/vibration exposure.

    • Engineering modifications as primary control measures.

    • Personal protection measures as secondary control measures.

  • Noise/vibration nuisance is everybody’s problem. Large companies have legal and corporate responsibilities to control noise/vibration as an environmental or an occupational hazard. Individuals also have responsibilities to prevent noise nuisance to neighbours under By-laws or as good citizens. Awareness is well established, and most corporations and individuals are trying to comply with their responsibilities. The question is how good are their efforts? Our experience is that there is a lot of confusion and misconception, thus lot of effort and expense results in poor outcomes.

ATP Consulting Engineers provides training and support in the following areas:

    • Responsibilities of individuals for noise/vibration control under Nuisance By-Laws and under Body-corporate By-Laws.

    • Common errors in apartment refurbishments that lead straight to court.

    • 'Do's and Dont's' of DIY noise/vibration control.

    • General 'rules of thumb' that work because they are based on professional experience and testing.

    • Overview of each individual case and hands-on training as part of refurbishment.
